Creek Fun!

Chip and I were trying to decide what to do the rest of the day after eating a yummy breakfast with Karlee at the Waffle House Sunday morning. After a phone call with Jason Kirk, it was decided Eufabee Creek was the destination. Eufabee Creek is where the Chewacla Creek and Swamp Creek come together in Tuskegee for those of you that have no idea what Creek I'm talking about!

Chip grew up with the Kirk boys and the Creek was a favorite hangout of theirs. Chip was a little excited that he was getting to take Karlee to do something with Jason and Rolley Len that they used to do. Christy and I were just tag alongs!! After a short ride on the four-wheeler, we were there and Karlee immediately took off down the sand to the water. She got her bucket and started picking up rocks and mud. She was in heaven with the mud (such a tomboy already!!). I don't think the pictures show it but there is a long stretch of sand along the creek side too, not just mud.

We had been there a long time before the rain came. It was Karlee's first time to play in the rain too. We thought "no big deal" because we were already wet. But, when the thunder and lightning started, it was a whole different story. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Lightning scares me to death. Jason drove all the girls back to the trucks and then went back to get Chip, the cooler, and the chairs. All in all, it was a very fun afternoon which I'm sure has started something that we will do often.

It's going to be fun to watch another set of Kirk's and Baker's grow up together. Karlee and Rolley Len are two weeks apart and the fun is just beginning.

Fresh Veggies!

Karlee and I took an early morning trip to the new market at Blooming Colors Saturday while Chip was working. They were just having a soft opening on Saturday but we came home with lots of goodies: tomatoes, squash, peaches, and sweet corn. I added some fresh black eyed peas I already had and what a great meal we enjoyed last night. Corn is one of Karlee's most favorite foods so we pulled some off the cob for her and she ate all of it before starting on the rest of the food.

Karlee is a vegetable lover. There is really nothing that we have given her in the vegetable department that she doesn't like. At Outback one night last week, she picked up the broccoli chunks and started eating them like she does a piece of bread. Broccoli in both hands eating pieces out of it like crazy. I HATE broccoli but am so glad Karlee likes it because it's healthy and better than the PBJ sandwiches and mac n cheese that I grew up on (not because that's all my parents fed me but because that's all I would eat growing up).

She loves Mikata (not a favorite of mine but I go for Chip to eat sushi). She gets all of my vegetables, all of my cabbage, and part of my rice (I do like the rice). The elderly couple at our table was just amazed at how much she was eating. Fist fulls of cabbage and zucchini stuffing her cheeks! She then shared an ice cream with us for dessert.

Karlee is getting so coordinated with a spoon and fork. Notice what hand she is using. Like father like daughter!

Also notice the ketchup. Karlee has started wanting to dip everything she eats in something. That something has ranged from honey mustard to ketchup to white cheese sauce at Niffer's (this sauce is what started the whole thing-thanks mom!). The funny thing is though that I and everyone else has always said "dip it" but for some reason Karlee is saying "bob it". I have no idea where that came from but it is hilarious when she hands you her food and says "bob it" if she doesn't have anything on her plate to dip in. It is so cute and makes me laugh every time she says it.

Wedding Weekend

We returned home yesterday afternoon from a fun wedding weekend in Demopolis, AL. My parent's kept Karlee over the weekend and she came back to us stinking she was so spoiled rotten! It is so easy leaving for trips when we know she is in loving hands.

We had a great time at all of the events from Friday and Saturday. It was nice to sit by the pool at the hotel with all of the wedding party and the parents of both bride and groom and share old stories and jokes after the rehearsal dinner.

We swung by the lake to pick Karlee up and see my dad for Father's Day. We enjoyed a great lunch at Niffers and headed home. Karlee was quiet for a little bit in the car. I looked back to see if she was asleep and this is what I found. She had found her toothbrush and toothpaste in the side pocket of her bag and went to town on her teeth. I couldn't resist taking a picture.

We spent the rest of the day playing with Karlee and loving on her to make up for the lost hugs and kisses from the weekend. It's so nice to be back at home with this little munchkin. She was definately missed. I hate that Father's Day was spent mostly in the car. I'm hoping Karlee wakes up from her nap in time for me to run to the grocery store and get something yummy to cook for Chip tonight (the neighbors house alarm going off is probably about to help that out a lot and the cops have just arrived!).

Waste of time and money

I am so mad right now that I had to share this. I have seen photography work and actual printed pictures of work done by Crysten Martin. She had a family photo shoot on June 13 that a friend of mine told me about. We booked an appointment for 9:00 that morning. It was a nice overcast day (perfect for pictures according to Crysten). I was so excited because in the almost 17 months of Karlee's life, we have no color family pictures of us besides snapshots. We only have one black and white done by the amazingly talented Brooke Dilworth!

Crysten takes about 100 pictures, puts them on a disk, and gives a waiver for you to have them printed anywhere you want for $30 existing clients and $40 new clients.

A very muddy expensive outfit (Karlee was put in the creek for some of the pictures)and $40 later, this is what I got:

Don't adjust the screen. The pictures really are black!

What makes it even worse is the pictures were supposed to be Father's Day presents after they were framed. I don't recommend using this lady or the above pictures are what you may or may not get. I'm interested to see how the pictures of other people I knew having them that day turned out.

I guess I'll stick to the black and whites by Brooke because I know they will always be done professionally.

Playing between storms

It has been a stormy weekend here in Auburn. But, we were able to get out and enjoy the outdoors a little bit. Saturday and Sunday this is pretty much what we did.

I also celebrated my 29th birthday on Monday with Chip and Karlee. I now have a sewing machine. Now where is the time to learn how to use it?? Opelika Sewing Center here I come!

First Pigtails!!

Karlee sat still long enough for me to get her hair in pigtails this morning. Isn't she just the cutest little thing ever?

Things that "Go"

Karlee is in love with all things that move and make her "go".

The boat

The golf cart

The paddle boat

And her "convertible sports car"

She rode on the paddle boat for the first time yesterday and loved it. That yellow thing has been around since I was around 9 or 10 years old. My parents bought it from Dr. Strother a long time ago and it's still hanging in there.

Simply Fun

Last night after dinner, Chip decided to clean out his truck so the guys riding in it this weekend would not get red dirt all over them. Well, a simple, supposed to be quick cleaning turned into this:

Which led to this:

Which led to this:

Which led to this:

and finally this.

After all the water fun, it was straight to a warm bath, help Chip pack, and off to bed.

Monogram Wednesdays

I'm only working half days on Wednesdays for most of the summer. I'm using this day to run errands (i.e. grocery store without Karlee), take care of my personal appearance (haven't had a haircut since October) and complete monogram projects. I just finished a onesie and dress project for my friend Natalie's cousin. I thought they turned out so cute! The bunny is my favorite but it's blurry in the slide show.

Monday in the A/C

After spending Friday at the pool and Saturday and Sunday at the lake, I thought it was a good idea to have a day inside in the comfortable air conditioning. Karlee's skin is turning brown and her hair is turning white and it's only the first of June.

We started the day with "bibbits" (Karlee's pronunciation of biscuits) and apple butter. Karlee's first taste of apple butter a while back was not appetizing to her. However, Monday morning was a whole different story. She saw me eating it and had to have it. I slathered her biscuit in it and she said "woo wee" with every bite.

We then played like maniacs in the living room. I'm not so happy to say that a day indoors leaves my living room looking like this. We have a play room upstairs that looks just as messy every day.

We later moved to the back porch and sat at Karlee's table with the umbrella up. Sable had a field day with all of Karlee's dropped snacks. We played with bubbles and chased Sable across the porch. Karlee loves to smell the flowers that are finally starting to climb up the railing on the porch (mommy likes the smell too!).

That's all our Monday consisted of. Quiet and relaxing is nice to have every now and then!

Stop taking pictures mommy!!
